The battle of the Somme and the Easter Rising are seminal events in our history. They have helped determine our identities on this island. ‘Since memories shape present identities, neither I nor the other can be redeemed without the redemption of our remembered past’. How do we do this? How can we remember truthfully, responsibly and peacefully? The Stormont executive are at an impasse on this. What is the “Jesus way” of dealing with the past?
